The attacks are attributed to Chechen separatists which have possibly been boosted up by the arrival of fighters linked with al Qaeda from Syria. The Sochi Olympics provides a opportunity for these groups to target Russia after the staunch support that Moscow has been giving to Syrian President Assad.
