Human rights issues in the limelight

International criticism of the Sri Lanka Government's poor human rights record and disregard for humanitarian issues gathered momentum with the British parliament debating the Sri Lanka situation for four hours. The mounting pressure on Sri Lanka for its failure in the human rights front, due to strong lobbying by international NGOs like the Amnesty International and the Human Rights Watch in the UN has put the government on the defensive.
