Pakistan Army’s Crisis of Morale and Confidence

Over 250 Pakistani soldiers continue to be trapped by the militants in Southern Waziristan and Mohmand. These include at least seven officers. The kidnapping or surrender would have been ignominious to any other armed forces in the World. Surprisingly the Pakistan Army as well as media is quite complacent about the whole issue. While some of these troops are from the Frontier Corps, there are reports of even regular army troops involved in the capitulation. In Southern Waziristan Behtullah Mehsud faction of the Taliban is behind the kidnapping. It is now clear that the troops were trapped while travelling in a convoy lightly armed and were surprised by a small body of 25 to 30 militants.
